Guidelines for CCD Chapters
in Prisons

1.    Be submissive to the needs and to the desires of the Chaplain and the Prison Staff.

2.    CCD concepts may be applied to other captivating works of the flesh.  Some other issues may be divorce, debt, co-dependency, eating disorders, any type of sin or addictions, and abuse.

3.    Three types of Chapter meetings may be held:

a.    Step Meeting - Cover the 12 Steps as in the CCD books issued (For pre-release facilities with a limited amount of weeks to minister the 12 steps, this is the primary form of meeting allowed.)

b.    Speaker Meeting - This would be an opportunity for the group leader to invite local Churches who are going to hold CCD Chapters or take in inmates after release and mentor them and/or their families, to speak and extend a loving hand to the inmates. Occasionally you may decide to allow an inmate who is excelling to speak concerning the steps and what they mean for their future release.

c.   Sharing Meeting - Testimonies and prayer requests. This type of meeting in a facility should be monitored more strictly than in a Church CCD Chapter setting. Inmates may complain about treatment within the facility or from family members. Always show genuine Love of God and concern, but never talk negatively about the legal authorities, judges, the officers or the administration in front of the inmates. If you notice a serious situation such as suicidal tendencies, possible inmate abuse by officers or administration etc., notify the Chaplain immediately by memo and copy the memo to the CCDOT office.
